Module 1: The purpose of investment and business

In Module 1, we introduce you to the concept of purpose in investment and business, describes its significance and benefits, and explores different models for discovering an organisation’s purpose.

Module 2: Professionalism, authenticity and culture in investment

In Module 2, we will examine the relationship between professionalism, authenticity and purpose in investment. We will also consider the organisational and cultural enablers of positive corporate purpose.

Module 3: Introducing sustainable investment and stewardship

In Module 3, we will introduce sustainable investment and stewardship. This includes an initial discussion on the interdependence of business, investors and society, focusing on historical conflicts between these stakeholder groups and the negative implications of pursuing investment returns through a focus on short-term transactions. We will propose a new perspective on investment, which embraces sustainability and recognises the value of improving long-term stakeholder relationships as a source of growth and prosperity.

Module 4: Understanding and integrating sustainability and ESG factors into investment processes

Module 4 introduces the concept and practice of ESG integration from the perspectives of the asset manager and asset owner, discussing how effective integration is best achieved across asset classes and investment styles.

Module 5: Understanding effective stewardship of capital

Module 5 provides an in-depth introduction to stewardship and discusses what good stewardship of capital means for asset managers and asset owners, respectively.

Module 6: Achieving effective engagement

Module 6 explores how purposeful, thoughtful and effective engagement can enable asset managers to drive meaningful change, protect long-term value, and contribute to a more successful, sustainable and resilient global economy.

Module 7: Governance, sustainability and stewardship

Module 7 will consider common sustainability issues and their suitability for engagement and critically assess asset managers’ thematic engagement programmes and identify their limitations. We will also explore the core elements of corporate governance and the methods for promoting effective governance practices through stewardship.

Module 8: How to understand impact in stewardship and investment

Module 8 seeks to develop an understanding of how impact arises in different asset classes and investment styles.

Module 9: Understanding and reframing the impacts of business and investment

In Module 9, we will explore how investors can consider long-term secular trends and global environmental and social challenges in their investment strategies.

Module 10: Reporting, data and the regulatory context for stewardship and sustainable investment

In Module 10, we will explore key regulations in major markets and their implications for investors. We will also discuss some of the globally recognised voluntary reporting standards in relation to sustainability and investment, and examine the role of ESG data in investment, including the benefits and limitations of ESG data produced by third-party data providers.
